CENSUS, a general catalogue and index of Dongba manuscripts

Manuscripts belonging to Dongba pictographic tradition could be considered as religious scriptures, dedicated to ceremonies belonging to Naxi Dongba tradition.

During last century many thousands of manuscripts were taken from China and arrived in Europe and U.S.A., and actually are still preserved in collections spreaded in whole western world institutions: the most numerous and important collections, also because of their web resources instruments which permits to consult Dongba manuscripts without being in China, are at today Harvard Yenching Library Naxi Manuscript Collection with 598 manuscripts, and the Collection of Naxi Manuscripts of the Library of Congress, Asian Division, Washington, D.C.. with 185 manuscripts.

Availability of coverpage, data, metadata and complete argumentation of manuscripts depends closely to availability of Institution where the original collection is preserved.
