Cultural Geography researches cultural phenomenon in the development and evolution of time and space, and stresses the environmental conditions of a culture, based on the relationship of the culture and the environment. This kind of research, based on culture and people’s concepts, behavior and human landscape and the cross-fertilization, provides a new perspective and methods for us to investigate the protection of intangible cultural heritage. In today’s global economic integration and network environment, the intangible cultural heritage has gradually lost its original existence of the natural and social environment. The farming culture and it’s related natural and social environment, which the folk traditional culture depends on, has also undergone a major changes. The intangible cultural heritage of Yunnan is gradually decreasing because of their culture environment, so the protection of intangible cultural heritage is very urgent. The traditional music of Naxi as a typical representative of the intangible cultural heritage, comes from the social and historical life practice of Naxi people and is the major carrier of the Naxi spirit. And the Naxi music, having relationship with their religious belief, regional human landscape, customs activities etc, has formed a unique artistic style. We can make use of the Cultural Geography and other related theory to protect the traditional music. It will be very useful for the Naxi music to provide a virtuous circle cultural ecological environment.
