Zhangna 中央音乐学院

The traditional music of Na’xi ethnic group, also known as ‘baishaxiyue’, is one of the most important parts of the inherited traditional Na’xi music which includes ‘Dongba music’, ‘Boshixili’ and ‘Lijiang traditional music’. For a long period of time, the researchers of relevant disciplines have been concentrating on the indications of its name; its history tracks, its musical from and its historical and cultural values. As for the indications of the name, there are mainly two opinions including ‘baishaxiyue’ and ‘baisha music’. As for its history tracks, ‘baishaxiyue’ is the folk music derived from Na’xi ethnic group and it is the heritage sound of the Yuan people. It is also a great music that mixed with various sources of music. As for the musical form, ‘bashaxiyue’ is a kind of classical music set that contains dancing music, songs and instrument music. Its traditional performing processes start from ‘du’, followed by ‘zongshi’ ‘sansiji’ ‘aliligoujibo’ ‘meimiwo’ ‘duocuo’ ‘kacuo’ and ended by ‘mubu’. The main features of the musical form are the consistency between every second paragraph and the comparison between the neighboring paragraphs. If it is the chorus of eight musicians, the main instrument is bamboo and accompanied by singing and dancing. There is no company of the beating instrument and no rigid numbers of the band. This essay will mainly deal with the name indication, its musical forms and the recent research and conclusion.

Yang Fuquan, YASS

The concept about “Black” and “white” is a cultural phenomena among the ethnic groups of Tibeto-Burman language family including Naxi，Qiang、Tibetan，and Yi as well as the other ethnic groups inhabiting in the surrounding Himalayan area. Some researchers have put much efforts to study the meanings of “White” and “Black” related to the terms of address of the various ethnic groups with much debate. This paper, based on rich information from author’s fieldwork, ethnographic materials and religious and historic records, has made deep and extensive study on the concept of Black and White. It points out that the Naxi and Na ethnic groups worship to White and taboo from Black which reflected in their religion and folk custom, the term “Na”(Black) contain in the address of ethnic groups among Naxi, Na, Nari, Nahai and Namuyi etc. is still a term which must be deeply studied for its real meaning. No matter whether the term Na related to the meanings of Black, huge, big, large, it has nothing to do with so-called“worship to Black. The paper also have significance to go deep to the concept about Black and White of Yi Ethnic Group which have much scholarly debate as well as the concept about color among the ethnic groups of T Tibeto-Burman language family.

The Relationship Between The Early Naxi And Tibetans From The Historical Records And Anthropological

Ye lha bhar

Tibetan Language and Literature Department, Northwest University for Nationalities

Among the Himalayan nations, Tibetans and Naxi have their own respective, rich cultural heritages. The relationship between these two nationalities’ history and culture is considered an important chapter of the history and culture of China’s southwest nationalities. At the same time, both play important roles in the overall history of China. From the analysis of archaeological remains discovered amongst rock coffin burial sites as well as Tibetan, Chinese and Naxi language historical documents, also language and anthropological records, there is evidence that these two nationalities originate from one root. They are as such, two branches. We can say that Tibetans and Naxi were close relatives. The original Naxi are a combination of local groups and descendants of the early Qiang Tibantans who migrated to the Zhengchuan area during the Chunqiu Zhanguo period. In addition, they brought their Bon religion to the new areas they came to inhabit. As the tubo expanded their power into Naxi territories, the tubo emperors came to rule the naxi. With that, there were a tightly interwoven relationship between the Naxi and Tibetan fields of politics, culture, religion, and economic trading. Further, Naxi tradition was influenced by Tibetan cultural and religious practices. Although Naxi culture greatly transformed after its migration south, it still retained much of its original identity. Meanwhile, it is also a mixed culture due to friendly interaction and exchange with Tibetans.

Wile scholars debate the relationship between Tibetans and Naxi, most of their arguments are based on Chinese historical records and early historians’ accounts and there have been no academic papers to date compiled on the basis of Tibetan historical records. There are scattered documents in the Tibetan archives describing the complex relationship between Tibetans and Naxi but more research based on pieces concerning the relationship between the politics and culture of Tibetans and Naxi is necessary. Using contemporary anthropological techniques, it is academically of prime significance to discuss cultural change, linguistic interrelationships and the influence of religion between the two.

According to Bourdieu’s theories of cultural capitalism and cultural reproduction, this dissertation tries to interpret the endangerment of Dongba dance culture at the perspective of education. Firstly, the author demonstrates the actuality and the tendency that Dongba dance culture is increasingly endangered. Secondly, to analyze the educational functions of Dongba dance culture and the interaction of schooling and Dongba dance cultural transmission and inheritance, so as to reflect on the actuality of schooling and cultural transmission and inheritance, and then seek out the root of Dongba dance culture endangerment. Finally, countermeasures are put forward to construct positive relations of cultural transmission and inheritance rationally.

KEY WORDS: Dongba dance culture, cultural transmission and inheritance, education, endangerment of culture
